This table neatly organizes the key information about the movie “Bramayugam,” including its release date, rating, cast, crew, and production details.

Bramayugam Movie: Story

Set in 17th century Malabar, Thevan (Arjun Ashokan), a court singer, and his friend Kuran (Manikandan R. Archer) escape the slave trade. They try to cross a river, but Kuran is killed by a female spirit, Yakshi (Amalda Liz). To save his life, Thevan enters a mansion owned by Kuduman Potti (Mammootty). Siddharth Bharathan is the chef of Kodumon Potti. Kodumon Potti tells Thevan that he can stay in the mansion. Gradually, Thevan begins to realize that something is wrong with that mansion and Kodumon Potty. What is this? Did Thevan run away from that mansion? What’s so mysterious about Kodumon Putty? This is what Brahmayugam is about.

Bramayugam Movie: Plus points

Brahmayugam is a unique effort, and congratulations to Mammootty for attempting something like this and continuously pushing the boundaries. The film revolves around three characters and mostly takes place in the same mansion. Hence, the performances and technical aspects have to be great for such a film. Brahmayugam is correct in these aspects.

Mammootty gave an award-worthy performance as Kudoman Potti. His close-up shots, subtle portrayal and powerful dialogue payoff add to the impact to a great extent. Instead of relying on rumors and clichés, Brahmayugam creates an eerie feel through a dilapidated mansion, Mammootty’s mysterious characterization and the black and white format.

Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Bharatan are incredible in their respective roles. We feel for Arjun Ashokan’s character and root for him. The actor’s facial expressions and body language are amazing. There is an important sequence in which the two main characters get trapped. The way that sequence was conceived and shot is mind-boggling. Although Brahmayugam may sound like a horror film, Rahul Sadasivan has deftly touched upon some social issues by neatly interweaving the horror themes, reflecting his strong belief in the craft.

Bramayugam Movie: Negative Points

Brahmayugam is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, as it won’t be like a regular horror film. The film is slow moving for the most part, and some sections of the audience may feel bored as most of the conversations and scenes are long.

The entire first half is about establishing Mammootty’s characterization and building the mystery element. The director’s approach of explaining every little aspect in detailed manner may irritate you, and you need to be more patient to enjoy the drama and proceedings.

The climax feels a bit routine for such a different film and could have been handled better. Compared to the second part, the first part is more interesting despite the slower pace.

Bramayugam Movie: technical aspects

Technically, Malayalam films are becoming great and Brahmayugam is no different. The production design team in particular did a fantastic job. We can see vegetation in and around the mansion, and that adds to the intrigue. Cristo Xavier’s brilliant background score, Shahnad Jalal’s stunning cinematography, and Jaidev’s compelling sound design work in the film’s favor.

The editing is in line with the director’s vision. Rahul Sadasivan is clear in his approach and does exactly what he wants. He made tremendous use of the technicians and took the best from Mammootty and other actors. The production values are fine.

Bramayugam Movie: Decision

Overall, Brahmayugam is a different effort, but given its nature it may satisfy only a section of the audience. Mammootty breathes life into his role and his towering presence is helped by superb technical values. Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Bharatan are good in their respective roles. The pace of the film is slow for the most part, and this may not appeal to many. The drama moves at a leisurely pace and can be irritating at times. In terms of impact, the first half is better than the latter. Those who like to watch unique films may like Brahmayugam, but for others, this film will be disappointing.
